Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss effecting nearly 1.5m people in the UK, it affects people of all ages..

The macula is part of the retina at the inside back layer of the eye. It is only about 5mm across but is responsible for our central vision, most of our colour vision and the fine detail of what we see

Macular Degeneration is caused by the deterioration of the central portion of the retina, that records the images we see.

There are different forms of Macular Degeneration the most common is Age-related macular degeneration (AMD).  This conditions effects people over the age of 55.  

Without the proper treatment Macular Degeneration can be serious and becomes more difficult to treat.  If you have concerns about your eye site or a family members eye site then you should seek help from a specialist.
